The RSW Counterweight Bearing & Shaft Kit STC is an extremely rugged and proven alternative to the original Hamilton Standard kidney bearing.  Our kits are manufactured with double stress-proof materials, plated, and coated with a self-lubricating topcoat.

Premium materials and processing go a long way towards making reliable, long lasting parts, but the real secret to the success of our kits is with the redesigned bushing.  The OEM assembly has a major design flaw with the bushing configuration.  The OEM configuration has a very shallow bushing that is pressed into the aluminum cylinder.  This is the first problem as there is simply not enough area contact between the cylinder and the bushing to keep it from 'wobbling" under stress.
     
Then, to complicate matters even more, when the shaft is inserted and threaded into the cylinder, there is a portion of the shaft which is left completely unsupported.  This is where the shafts traditionally break.  OEM shaft breakage is a very common occurrence, especially when the propeller is not lubricated routinely.  A broken shaft can be very dangerous.
   
In order to correct this original design flaw, RSW created an STC in which the bushings are redesigned to the correct strength and stress requirements for this configuration, and the RSW shaft is supported 100% by the bushing so there is no flex break point.
   
This STC requires a minor modification to the cylinder.  The bushing holes in the cylinder are drilled and tapped to accept the oversize bushings.  This is not a difficult procedure and can be performed in most any shop, or the cylinders can be sent to RSW or one of our dealers for modification.
